» Privacy Policy
This policy explains the basic practice of handling user information in the process of providing services by the client. Please read the following items carefully before use.
1. Information collection and scope of use
Client collects only the technical data necessary to ensure basic functionality, including device model, operating system version, and client startup logs. This data is used to optimize AO3's service stability and is not individualized to your creative or browsing behavior. AO3 reader preferences (e. g. fonts, themes) are only saved locally on the device and are not uploaded to any server.
2. Data Storage and Access Control
All client versions certified by the official website of AO3 use encrypted channels to transmit communication content. By default, your reading records, bookmarks, and history lists are only stored locally. If you choose to enable cloud synchronization (optional), the data will be stored in the cluster in an anonymized manner and does not contain information that can identify you. The client download package provided by the AO3 official website portal has passed the integrity check to ensure that the third-party tracking module is not embedded.
3. Third-party links and jump tips
When you click the AO3 link entrance from within the work to jump to an external site, the client will display a risk reminder, but will not automatically collect your operation behavior on the external site. The platform is not responsible for monitoring data leakage caused by external sites. If the HOME I ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN page is frequently redirected or an error of the AO3.CUBEART.CLUB HOST ERROR class is displayed, please submit an anonymous log through the built-in "diagnosis report" function of the client. The log only contains technical parameters and does not contain your personal content.
4. User Control and Data Deletion
You have the right to clear the local cache, history and preferences in the client Settings at any time. ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN does not permanently retain your temporary session data, all session tokens automatically expire upon exiting the client. For works that you actively publish, their metadata (such as tags, summaries) are only used for content classification, and there is no mandatory binding relationship with your device identifier.
ARCHIVEOFOUROWN operations team regularly cleans the cache of anonymous sessions that have been inactive for more than 180 days, ensuring data minimization.
5. Policy updates and notification methods
This Privacy Policy is revised as client functionality iterates, the updated version will be presented as a pop-up summary when you launch the client. By continuing to use the client, you are deemed to have understood the current policy. For historical versions, consult the archive page under the Client Help menu.
This policy is only used as a service description, and the specific implementation is subject to the actual performance of the client. If you have any questions, please contact the operation team through the "contact us" portal on the official website.
